The Americans have always thought of themselves as a city on a hill or a light in the night. The nation has been growing for years and years. Often we have had problems and struggles. From the Civil War, the Great War, Civil Rights, and moving west this county has always had a sense that we are united and we will get though the dark and into the light. Even when we disagreed we could all say we were Americans. But, this all change when some divided us into groups.
This grouping of America is something that is new to the nation. We call the other side fascist or communist out of angry to the other. I have read comments on other sites that are so vulgar that it would make you sick. Here is an example "You need to get back to Cuba you socialist pig, I am sure you would be happy there. I hate the elitist left in this county, if I want to fire my gun into the air and threaten blacks then I should be able to do it. I hate those crooks in the White House, they are taking away my liberty." I have also heard attacks like that from the left. The point being that some drive a wedge between us and do not want us to live in harmony.
The hatred in the US is growing at an increasing rate. I watch the news and often they talk about the Tea Party vs the ACLU, the Dodgers vs. the Giants, or the whites against the blacks. We once had a sense of unity and then some got the idea if you divide enough and make the person hate then you can win. The new example of this is the Tea Party. While they may have been set up with good intentions they changed. Instead of offering a new idea they yelled, threaten, bullied, and waved their guns in other peoples faces. I can hear the echos of socialist, Marxist, and baby killer months after the midterms. I cannot turn on the news and not hear about the dividing of this county. This problem is not exclusive to the right but the right's call has been much louder than the others. Dividing is causing us to fall down a snowy slope.
I always thought that we would get tired of this new America but I was wrong it is only getting worse. The speeches and the news is only getting worse. People have more hatred now then any other time beside the Civil War. I have never seen any thing like this. We need to unite so we do not fall, because without every helping to keep the fire going we will no longer be a light in the darkness.
